Quality performance demands well-trained personnel. In order to maintain its high standard of
excellence, Sunwest Electric, Inc. has been instrumental in developing a comprehensive program that encompasses craft
skill training, for almost 30 years. We also provide technical training, journeyman upgrade, supervisory, managerial and professional
development programs.
Safety
It is the policy of Sunwest Electric, Inc. to provide and maintain safe and healthy working
conditions for all of its employees. To this end, the Company employs a Safety Director with
a Management Safety Committee whose function is not only to develop and implement operating practices
that will safeguard all employees, but also to initiate programs that will maximize loss control
and thereby increase overall productivity. A comprehensive safety program has been developed and
implemented throughout the Company and our performance is a testament to its' success, with a
workmens compensation experience modification rate of .68 and an OSHA Incident Rate of 1.38. Sunwest Electric, Inc. is
S.T.E.P. Platinum and pending Diamond certification (Safety Training Evaluation Process) which is a merit based
safety recognition for Merit Shop Contractors. It incorporates both OSHA required safety data with self
assessment requirements to give a full, wide ranging report on the entire nature of a company's safety program.
Sunwest Electric, Inc. is also certified by PICS which is a pre qualifying agency to the petroleum refinery industry.
A majority of our field personnel are LA RSO Certified (Refinery Safety Overview.)
Drug-Free Workplace Policy
Sunwest Electric, Inc. is committed to providing a safe, efficient, and productive work environment
for all employees. As such, job applicants are required to provide a comprehensive pre-employment
drug screen to determine illegal use of drugs or alcohol. Any applicant who fails the drug test
will not be considered for employment.
Furthermore, Sunwest Electric, Inc. will take the necessary steps to ensure that drug use does not
occur at any work site or facility and to comply with applicable legal and administrative
regulations mandating maintenance of drug-free workplaces.
Community
Sunwest Electric Inc. has a philosophy of sharing success with our community. Since 1985 we have
supported numerous youth athletic groups such as, little league baseball, junior basketball,
football, soccer, softball, dance and cheerleading organizations.
In addition to supporting youth organizations we have also shared our successes with Children's
Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance of Orange County, City of Hope,
Children's Miracle Network, Project Hope School, Youth Scouting Organizations, CSULB, and Children's
Hospital, People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,
Bipolar Disorder, and the YMCA. Sunwest Electric, Inc. has and
continues to be involved in raising funds for the City of Hope through an annual fundraiser and has
contributed over $300,000.00 to benefit leading edge treatment at the City of Hope.
In addition to sponsoring the above deserving causes our employees participate in an annual holiday
fund raiser benefiting the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Every year we hold a holiday
toy drive to deliver to the bedsides and the playrooms of the hospital for the children who are
undergoing treatments. In fact since we started this program over the past three years our employees
have donated over six hundred gifts estimated to be worth over twenty thousand dollars to benefit
these children.
We have also made our employees available to teach, speak and lecture local and community colleges
construction engineering students.
Legislative
Sunwest Electric Inc. is actively involved in many legislative issues that involve our industry.
Workforce
Almost 200 California Certified Journeymen or Apprentices enrolled in a four year California State
Approved Apprentice Training program.
